Having a free hand with regard to the amount of money that can be spent might not make up for the bereavement but it can make arranging the ceremony a lot less stressful for all concerned. It might be quite a tense situation when meeting the managers head on but at least they will know that they are up against serious opposition and may even decide to do something positive before they are forcibly removed.
